Nina Wootton

Nina Wootton is a marine ecologist and lecturer at Adelaide University, working at the intersection of marine ecology, fisheries, environmental science and conservation. Her research focuses on practical, science-based solutions to environmental challenges, with particular interests in marine plastic pollution, contaminants, seafood and fisheries. Nina investigates how plastics and microplastics move through marine food webs and affect seafood species, ecosystems and human health. She also works with industry, government, Traditional Owners and communities to support sustainable fisheries, coastal restoration and ocean conservation. Nina is the South Australian representative on the Australian Society for Fish Biology Executive Council and was awarded the ASFB Early Career Excellence Award in 2025.
